Drop a square image (512×512+ recommended)
Why do favicons need multiple sizes?
A single favicon image gets displayed at wildly different sizes across contexts — a 16×16 browser tab icon, a 32×32 taskbar shortcut, a 180×180 iOS home screen icon, a 192×192 or 512×512 Android/PWA icon. A single source image scaled down by the browser at render time often looks soft or loses detail at small sizes, especially if it has fine lines or small text. Pre-rendering each size explicitly, with its own resampling pass, keeps every icon crisp at its actual display size.
This tool takes one source image and generates all the standard sizes — 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 180, 192, and 512px — by drawing it onto a canvas at each target dimension, so every size gets its own dedicated scale rather than the browser stretching one file everywhere.
When to use it
Use it whenever you're setting up a new site's favicon, refreshing an old one that only ships a single low-res .ico, or preparing a Progressive Web App that needs a 192×192 and 512×512 icon for its manifest. It's most effective starting from a large, simple source image — a square logo mark or app icon at 512×512 or larger — since the generator only ever scales down, and downsizing produces sharper results than upsizing.
Square source images work best because every generated size is also square; a non-square source gets squashed into a square canvas at each size, distorting the image. Crop to a square first with Image Cropper if your source isn't already square.
Example
Upload a 512×512 square logo PNG and click Generate Favicons — the tool produces eight PNGs at 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 180, 192, and 512px, each downloadable individually or all at once. It also outputs the exact <link rel="icon"> and <link rel="apple-touch-icon"> HTML tags referencing each generated file, ready to paste into your site's <head>.

The tool renders the source at 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 180, 192, and 512px on a canvas.
- 3
Download individually or all at once
Each size can be downloaded separately, or grab the full set in one click.
- 4

Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Every size is rendered locally on an in-browser canvas — the source image never leaves your machine.
Why do my small favicons look blurry or lose detail?
Fine detail and thin lines that read fine at 512px often disappear at 16px. Favicons work best when the source design is bold and simple — a single mark or letterform, not a complex illustration.
Does the source image need to be square?
Yes — every generated size is square, so a non-square source gets stretched to fit. Crop it to a 1:1 ratio first if needed.
Do I still need a .ico file?
Most modern browsers accept a PNG favicon via <link rel="icon">, but for maximum legacy compatibility you may still want to combine the 16/32/48px PNGs into a multi-resolution .ico using a separate converter.
