What is Helm?

The package manager for Kubernetes, bundling manifests into versioned, configurable charts that can be installed, upgraded, and rolled back.

Definition

Helm packages a Kubernetes application's manifests into a chart: templated YAML plus a values.yaml exposing configurable parameters like image tags, replica counts, and resource limits. Running helm install renders the templates with your values and applies them; helm upgrade and helm rollback manage releases as versioned units. Public repositories such as Artifact Hub host charts for PostgreSQL, Prometheus, ingress-nginx, and thousands of other components, so operators install complex software with one command. The Go templating can get unwieldy, which is why some teams pair or replace Helm with Kustomize overlays.
